Nice free site to visit and get a little history. The large stones sitting in the field make you wonder about the past residents who gathered here. It is clear that they chose a place of beauty as evidenced by the surrounding mountains. Highly recommend you don’t drive on Castle Ln but park along the main roads on either side. It’s a one lane road and can get blocked by oncoming traffic.

100% worth a visit if you’re in the lakes especially Keswick. It’s around a 5 min drive from Keswick town centre and you can just park on the side of the road in the layby for free. If you’re wanting to be here peacefully or take pictures etc probably best to get there earlier as you can imagine this gets a very busy place. Very a atmospheric here and the views are stunning.

The Winter Solstice This is when the Sun appears the lowest in the Northern Hemisphere sky. It is the rebirth of the Sun and the longest night of the year. Conversations with Crows and Castlerigg Stone Circle in the Midwinter Sun. Circa 3,000 BC and one of the first/oldest monuments to have been constructed in our lands. It sits central to the panoramic views of Thirlmere Valley with the mountains of High Seat and Helvellyn as a backdrop. It was packed this morning, every Pagan, man woman, child and dog. I'm used to approaching Castlerigg as the only human soul present. Every other time I encounter this site it is empty and wonderfully so!

Ancient Stone Circle. Definitely worth a visit, there are no barriers or impediments to you getting right up to the ancient standing stones. If your looking for photos then try going earlier rather than later as it is understandably a very popular spot to visit. Near the town of Keswick, so if your in the area definitely add it to your visit list.
