A fascinating, small local museum with a range of exhibits displaying and explaining the local geology, wildlife, industrial and farming history and the cultural history of the north west Lake District. Don't miss the 19th century stone xylophone, which the kids loved playing tunes on. They have a changing series of exhibitions, there was an interesting one on women climbers and mountaineers when we visited. They also have a great cafe in the basement, with access to Fitz Park.

Really interesting museum, passionate and friendly staff. The exposition has been improved a lot from what I read in previous reviews. I really enjoyed it.
Lovelt small. Area is brilliant. Faces a childrens park and green.
Really interesting permanent exhibition plus great temporary displays. I love the stone xylophone and the various insects, creatures, birds eggs etc. Really family friendly and your ticket lasts a year so you can keep coming back.
Great Saturday morning story time
