The KGO Adult Literacy Program is a grassroots, volunteer-run literacy program that assists adults ages 21 years and older with their reading, writing and math skills. Our program runs from September to June and classes take place every Thursday at 6:30pm-8:30pm at Progress Church (4242 Kingston Road) in the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park community of Scarborough, Ontario. OUR STORY Based on the reality that adults in the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park have literacy skills below the national and provincial average, the KGO Adult Literacy Program began as a pilot in the summer of 2013. As a result of its initial success and with the support of United Way Toronto, Action for Neighbourhood Change, Toronto Public Library, ABC Life Literacy and Progress Church, KGO ALP is now in its third cycle and helping more learners within the community improve their literacy skills. OUR MISSION & VALUES The mission of the KGO Adult Literacy Program is to assist adults in the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park community with their reading, writing and math so they are empowered to increase their social, personal and economic capacities, explore new opportunities and initiate change.
