We saw our lawyer three years ago she remembered us and knew who was coming and her advice and full knowledge of what we were discussing was first class.

5 star service. I needed to get a solicitor in a hurry and I had moved away from the area where my last solicitor was. I chose Thorntons because they had an office 2 minutes from where I stay, it worked out so well. From selling a property ( unexpectedly) to then buying a property, very quickly, all within 4 weeks I could not have had better service. Zoe and her team pulled out all the stops so everything could happen in the asked for deadlines. Thank you, have no hesitation in recommending, indeed already have to people I know.

I am in the process of buying a property and Thornton's are dealing with the legal stuff. So far their help and advice has been excellent.

I engaged Thornton's really because my previous solicitor had retired and Thornton's took over the firm, in fact Thornton's have been acquiring a number of Scottish legal firms and one might wonder if choice is becoming limited. I dealt with very pleasant people, but the sale of the property I owned with my wife was much more compact than the usual service and I felt a mix of disappointment - the loss of a previous relationship with the last firm 'Clarkson Hamilton' with whom one of the partners I had dealt with for over 30 years, coupled with high levels of justification that I was who I said I was and so on, indeed it was a blessing that the deeds were stored in the vault otherwise who knows what further questions would have arisen. The sale concluded as quickly as the firm appear to have been able, but payment took at least a week. Bewildering for me, since modern banking affords very inexpensive transactions 'faster payments' rather than the 3-4 days by BACS, or for 35 you can have the money on the same day. I am ignorant of good legal practice, but there seems little justification for this. Anyway, as I said, most pleasant people, and a competent conclusion, but choice was limited, efficiency seemed elusive and bureaucracy was in abundant supply. At the end of the process I was repeatedly asked if I wanted to make a will, to the point where I became concerned if I had really made one, having contacted Thornton's, I found that all was well, but given that my records were with a practice that they had acquired, more insight might have been expected, and the repeated contact could have been avoided. Anyway, no major problems, but mediocrity may be more than Thornton's are aiming for...then again if you are a large part of the legal market in Scotland it may be all that is required
