This is an amazing Cathedral that dominates the skyline of Kirkwall the main town on Orkney. It is the most northerly cathedral in the United Kingdom and a fine example of Romanesque architecture built for the bishops of Orkney around the 12th century when the islands were ruled by the Norse Earls of Orkney. The interior of the cathedral is spectacular with beautiful stained glass windows and sandstone columns. Apparently It has its own dungeon but we never went down there. You must visit this wonderful Cathedral if you are in the area.

A lovely cathedral in the centre of Kirkwall with lots of history to learn about. The cathedral is very easy to get to with lots of free parking around it. It is close to the sea front, ferry and local shops. Inside it is very nicely decorated and has an incredibly peaceful aura around it. If you are in the area then it is a must see!
Visited this whilst in Orkney. It was lovely and rather grand. I was surprised there was a cathedral in Orkney so I had to take a look! Very beautiful and well looked after. I'd have loved to have taken more photos, but I forgot my tripod - guess I will have to come back!
It's an impressive building and lovely to sit outside and view the building. Unfortunately we couldn't see the inside when we went as it was closed. But still worth seeing from the outside. There is free 20min parking around the cathedral if it was a quick visit you intended.
Just a short visit due to Covid restrictions. The cathedral is beautiful on the inside and out. Stone & wooden carvings with stained glass throughout. Free entry.
