Last August 2020 I searched for something that would be fun and Covid safe for my teens on the outer banks, I came across this hang gliding school near Jockey Ridge State Park. They had everything you would want for ages 12 and up. It was clear that the employees enjoyed their work. My kids had an excellent time. We will be going back.

We were looking for something interesting to do and it seemed appropriate to try hang gliding where the Wright brothers first flew. Jockey Ridge State Park is a great place for a visit on it's own but the kites make it even more fun. The instructors were cheerful and skilled and we had a great time. We'd love to do it again, but maybe move up to a private lesson where we learn even more.
Had such a fun time today. Yes, it's a pricey activity, but I feel it was well worth the splurge and I was also treated very nicely. I took a beginning lesson and even though it's still at a simple level, I really enjoyed the interaction and attentiveness of my instructors.
My boyfriend and I went hang gliding here as a spur of the moment activity and it has made life long memories. The staff here is phenomenal - specifically Wolf who made me feel comfortable even though I was very nervous. Something that may make people feel reluctant to trying hang gliding is that they do not realize how beginner friendly it is. The kite is designed to fly well on its own (as they explain to you in the briefing) so if you follow the simple instructions you will have an absolute blast. The instructors are also running with you while you are flying telling you adjustments and directions so as long as you are a decent listener you are going to have an amazing day that you will remember forever at Kitty Hawk Kites Hang Gliding School! Thank you again to Wolf and the incredible staff that works SO hard to make sure everyone has the best day ever!
We had a great time learning to glide down the dunes with Bo and Billy! Very professional, safe, knowledgeable, and friendly.
