NPMCN was set up as the the tertiary institution at the apex of Medical Education in Nigeria and its main function is to produce specialists in all branches of Medicine and Dentistry. This is done through the organisation of the curricula for professional postgraduate education in the various specialized branches of medicine and dentistry; and the conduct of professional postgraduate examination of candidates to certify them as Specialists. These specialists are the Consultants in Tertiary Health Institutions and Lecturers in the Universities’ Medical and Dental Schools. Functions The functions of the College include but are not limited to the following: -The accreditation of training institutions for professional postgraduate training of doctors. -The organization of professional postgraduate training programmes. -The conduct of professional postgraduate examinations. -Organization of one year Clinical Attachment (training abroad) for qualified resident doctors. -Carrying out any other activities necessary in the furtherance of postgraduate medical education and quality healthcare in Nigeria.

The National Postgraduate Medical College is located on a vast expanse of land along the Lagos- Badagry Expressway. The environment is serene with adequate security. The school is very well managed with uninterrupted power supply during work hours. Workers are friendly and eager to help. Ample parking lot as well as well mapped out directions. The location of the school is advantageous as students can focus on studying away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Lagos.
