So we stayed on the golf course side so thats the only part I can speak for. But if you like ultra modern this place is not for you. Everything is earth tone with heavy wood accents...which I absolutely love. Its makes it feel like you are staying in the mountains instead of just going to this massive hotel where you have to get into an elevator and walk down a ridiculous long hallway. We arrived after hours and check in for that was supper easy and when we did go up to the main office and check in the next day Tami was super sweet and was very helpful and answered all our questions. Anyway we had our own parking spot right out front and we were in a 1 bedroom B unit so when you come in the front door you are in the living room area with a pullout couch. Then you walk downstairs...yep I wrote that right, downstairs...and there is your kitchenette, laundry space, small dining table, bedroom and huge bathroom complete with gold framed mirror and Hollywood lights and there was a huge jetted tub. The water pressure in our unit wasn't the best so it took forever to fill up the tub but that's not gonna cost it a star for me. My advice to anyone reading this is that make sure you check all the different routes available to get here because we did not and we took the shorter one and it took us through Bat Cave and down a dirt road. And to all the Wyndham vacation ownership haters....you are missing out. We love our wyndham vacation ownership because it lets us take spur of the moment vacations without having to worry about the cost of a hotel room or what kind of cleaning standards it has or the area it is located in. I know that wyndham lodging is very clean and they have a high standard. And their beds are so comfortable and everything is the same everywhere for their lodging. Knock on wood we have never had an issue with Wyndham.

This is an older resort in a beautiful setting made even more famous for its role in movies you would recognize. They were shot, in part, in this area. Think: Dirty Dancing. The Last of the Mohicans, including the spectacular last 20 minutes of the film. But there is more. Much more. Lake Lure. Abundant, and quite playable, golf courses. Hiking, of course. And tranquility. The resort units here are identical to those at Sapphire Valley. They are two bedroom lock-off units that can be rented as one bedroom units. Each unit has a bedroom, full bath, kitchen, dining area and living room. The "B" units are smaller, with smaller kitchen areas and a smaller sitting area. Each unit has its own entrance and its own rear deck, in this case, overlooking the fourth fairway of the golf course. While I give the edge to Sapphire Valley in North Carolina, you can't lose with either location if you seek some quiet time to commune with nature, or simply to recharge your batteries. A note, though of caution: the layout of the two bedroom units, with one up and the other down, is not ideal if traveling with younger children.
We were unable to reserve a 2 bedroom for our entire stay so we had a 2 bedroom lockoff for the first two nights and were told at check in that we would be staying on the A side of the lockoff for the remaining nights. We moved everything over and my husband went to check us out of the 2 bedroom. We were told that a VIP was coming and they would have the A unit and we needed to move everything back in 45 minutes for cleaning by 2 pm. I had food in the oven for my kids and we were all showering. Needless to say this made us very unhappy. I would like to add that my mother in law is the owner of the timeshare, and is also a VIP, but that same respect isn't paid shown to us as her guests. Fast forward to 1am and the guests for the A side finally arrive. I guess they forgot to mention that with a lockoff you can hear people breathing on the other side. They were incredibly loud on arrival and woke up my entire family. We will be cutting our trip short and heading to a hotel bc its so uncomfortable to hear a stranger's every move beside you. Aside from that, I don't think there have been any updates to the rooms since 1983. The amenities are nice, but those aren't owned or operated by Wyndham, so they don't really receive credit for those.
We were there in Sept & thought it was just perfect. Not busy & absolutely beautiful weather. We came to get away from busy Myrtle Bch area where we live & had the most peaceful time ever. We hiked the Chimney Rock, saw waterfalls & streams, moseyed around the village, met some really nice local people, visited the Flowering Bridge, then ate at some great restaurants. We were here for 6 days & it felt great to not be in a hurry. Just what we were looking for with all this craziness due to covid. All staff were wonderful, but I have to give a shout out to BEN because I left my electric tooth brush & he worked with me to get it sent back promptly. Highly recommended & look forward to returning.
For someone who likes golf and fly fishing, this is a great place to go. I fished with Michael Yelton and caught 8 trout and hit the tri-fecta. The room was exceptionally clean and they thought of everything. The weather was perfect. What else can I say.
Although the resort is older it is well maintained and a beautiful area overlooking the golf course. Check-in was a bit long due to COVID in car check-in, but OK. Was hard to find a place to run and work out closed due to COVID. We still had a great time, nice to get away.
Do you want a lake forest experience that's better than glamping?!! This is it! Tucked away in the mountains of North Carolina is Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Mountain! Luxurious accommodations with all the comforts of home nestled in the woods with so much to do nearby!! Fantastic getaway!!
It was a very quick check in and also they did express check out so that was a good feature. The room that we had was different because you walked into the couch and TV and then went downstairs to the kitchen bedroom and bathroom but it was perfect for us for the few days we were there
