As a 22 year old chemistry graduate, I was accepted into the University of Lancaster for a PhD degree in Biological Sciences on January 3rd, 1973. The university was new(ish) then but it had everything to make an international young student comfortable and overcome the separation from his/her family. I received my Doctorate in January of 1976, exactly 3 years to the date. Academically: I was proud and lucky to work under one of the best biochemical researchers in the World, Dr. F W Heaton who was a resource and a giant amongst Mineral Metabolism scholars. I voluntarily attended undergraduate classes to enhance my understanding in a different educational system. Socially: I have excellent memories of the university running through my head even nearly five decades later. I played football for Furness College and then won the 5 aside league in 1974/5 for Biological Sciences; I drove my old 1963 Triumph Herald and had fun being the “free” campus mechanic for three years. I was the departmental \DJ\ and prepared the lime/ Vodka punches on those occasions. Beautiful, happy and unforgettable memories. Enjoyed the Plough Inn/ Galgate on Fridays and got ready for outdoor football on Saturdays. Future after five decades: My biggest achievement at Lancaster was finding my future wife and the mother of my 3 successful children, Linda. She finished her Masters degree from Biological Sciences in February 1976 and we got married in March 1976, we moved to America in 1985 and now, after 45 years of marriage we are retired after having long successful careers in our fields plus having worked in three continents. Lancaster University gave us the elite qualifications to enjoy our careers, live comfortably and travel the world. Today, Lancaster University is an educational force among even the older more established universities in the UK & Europe alike. Do not hesitate joining the stories of success all over the world at Lancaster Dr. George

I had so much hope for this university but unfortunately it hasn’t lived up to my expectations or what they offered me. the mental health support so far has been lacklustre, and i feel very unsupported. they also extort us financially in regards to rent reductions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Terrible university. It's a business, not a university. Has a good sales pitch and social media profile but as a university and place of learning, very poor. No way a top ten UK university.

@lancrentstrike Lancaster University refuse to meet with student rent strikers to discuss a solution that does not involve financial exploitation of students. Students have no access to the promised education, but still required to pay rent for an inaccessible room.

Amazing new sports center with the latest TechnoGym equipment. COVID safety measures in place limiting the number of users and booking required for each time slot. I originally focused on the facility in my review but to add to this the team of fitness instructors at fantastic and despite being under a lot of pressure to adapt to the current restrictions are very friendly and enthusiastic.
