Great place to take a hike and still practice social distancing . Shortly after you pass the little village the pavement will end and you will go the last .8 mile on a dirt road . There was still quite a bit of snow at the top . the view from the top is just amazing , you can see for miles .

I would argue Bonanza peak is the least interesting part of this trek as it’s covered in trees and doesn’t afford much of a lookout point. The trail itself is much more interesting. The first 3 miles up to the saddle is almost entirely switchbacks, but various points offer increasingly more majestic views of Cold Creek and the surrounding area. The stark change in climates between the Spring Mountains and the Mojave is beautifully illustrated. The saddle itself yields an unobstructed view of Wheeler Pass leading to Pahrump. This point in my opinion offers the best views of the hike. The last mile or so to Bonanza Peak is a steady climb (only a few hundred more feet of elevation gain) and mainly under the cover of the forest. This makes reaching the summit itself a bit anticlimactic in my opinion. Overall this is a challenging hike with many rewarding views along the way. It’s off the beaten path so not too much traffic compared to the trails in Kyle and Lee Canyons. For people looking to explore a different part of the mountain range, this trail is a great starting place.

Fun trail! Low clearance cars shouldn't attempt the 2 mile dirt road though. 59 switchbacks to the saddle. Bring a good snack & plenty of water so you can sit & enjoy the view & fuel up for the ascent to the peak. So from the saddle you'll have about 1 - 1 1/2 miles to go to get to the peak and a lot lot more switchback If you go to the peak make sure you put your name in the sign in book! Enjoy & bee happy

It was beautiful. It is so much cooler at the higher altitudes. If you have not been, make sure to check it out. Also, I recommend a Jeep or a vechicle with better ground clearance than a sedan. It is a pretty rocky road for like two miles.
