I was very pleased with my burger and chips and the staff were fabulous. My wife had a jumbo battered sausage... oh hang on... that was after we got home... Yes... excellent food and polite service... my only complaint is that I'm still not fat enough. Well done the Friar!!!

The Fat Fryer Launceston reopened this week under new management. I tried this chippy tonight & can report that this is the start of a delicious return to food heaven I had both fish and cheesy chips both were well cooked & tasty. My only negative comment goes to their black and silver waiting chairs which are very small & uncomfortable for the tubbier foodie. That was a couple of months ago since then today in fact I asked cheesy chips for 3. I would have got fresher cooked chips from a tree surgeons wood chipper. Probably loads more edible too. Seems like low standards and high prices are going to be the norm there! I advise you to go to a decent chippy... But the Fat Friars ain't for me and it shouldn't be for you either!

Had fish and chips a few weeks ago which was lovely! But last night had cheesy chips which was awful!! Not one decent chip...some looking as if they'd been cooked over and over again and others just way to crispy!

As an intermittent visitor I would have agreed with the previous 5star reviews. BUT twice We have called in when the Web Site claimed they should be open only to leave hungry as they were firmly shut. Hopefully the previously friendly staff and their families are well but no chips for me...

As I tucked into my fish chips and mushy peas in the car I thought I must have happened upon fish and chip equivalent Doctor Who's TARDIS. The taste and flavours are just as I remembered from my childhood, when fish and chips was a special treat. It was so good in fact and I've actually been back four times in the past two weeks. It might not be doing much for my waistline but it's re educating my taste buds as to how fish and chips should taste. The Welcome is warm and friendly the staff are helpful, the price is fair and reasonable. What more could you ask for? Keep up the good work and I'll keep coming back. Michael

Been here twice while on holiday. Good fish, huge portions (wife went for the kiddy portion the second time and it still beat her) great taste and a curry sauce to die for. Friendly, patient staff who enjoy what they do
