Lessons in medieval martial arts, taught by someone who is not just an expert martial artist, but also a world class teacher. Jess' classes are authentic, highly physical, and committed to being safe and inclusive spaces for practitioners of all skill levels, whether they are brand new, longtime students, or just coming off of an injury. As a teacher in my own right, I can't say enough nice things about her work, except that I tell people that I want to be Jess Finley when I grow up.

I've been training historical fencing and martial arts for years, and every time I talk with Jess Finley (Ritterkunst's owner / instructor) I learn something new. I would say she's truly one of the world's best instructors in German medieval martial arts - she has an international reputation for being deeply familiar with the books from this era that give us instructions on what to do and how to think about what's happening when we are wrestling or fencing, and is excellent at providing a safe and welcoming environment for students of just about all backgrounds.

The Ritterkunst Turnhalle is a fantastic space to learn and practice medieval german knightly martial arts. Jessica Is a knowledgeable, reputable, and friendly Instructor who has literally written the book on medieval German wrestling (ringen). If you are looking for a great way to stay in shape, or just interested in learning to sword fight and are near the Lawrence Ks area, do not hesitate to drop by and check out a class!

Jess is one of the foremost researchers of the Kunst des Fechten tradition in addition to being a phenomenal instructor and stellar human being. If you're in the area and looking for HEMA stuff, you owe it to yourself to go check out her school. (Or even visit just for that)
