I was a little nervous about having my parents house repaired and painted as I had never been involved in a project of this size before and the house has a lot of meaning to me as it's where I grew up. We chose Jon Day as he had done some work previously for us that we were very happy with and liked how he did business. The house had some water damage that needed to be repaired and also offered some challenges from previous work that was done. He also installed some new flooring for us.. Jon Day and his team arrived exactly when they said they would, kept us updated throughout the process and always kept our best interests in the forefront. I feel that he really cares about what he does and that what you get is a superior product for your money. Day and Age did a beautiful job on our home and we will definitely use them for any further projects we have.

As a member of the Board of Trustees of a religious institution on the Connecticut shoreline, we hired Jon Day and his firm, DAY & AGE, to renovate a small building that had not been upgraded since it was built in 1947. We relied on Jon, who worked closely with an architect friend who recommended Jon to us, to help design the renovations and carry them out. A budget was established at the beginning of the project along with a timeline. Jon was committed to bringing the project in on budget and on time, which he did magnificently. Jon was in constant communication with me throughout the project, which was critically important as my full time residence is in New Jersey. Jon is creative, and meticulous and as talented a craftsman as I have every worked with. Jon's attention to detail is second to none. Jon listened to what we were looking to do to renovate flooring, walls, ceiling, lighting and fan fixtures, and the alter. Jon and his highly skilled team implemented the plan to perfection. Jon designed solutions to multiple delicate considerations along the way and handled each concern with care such as handling a Tree of Life wall display, plaques, and other religious artifacts. Jon never looked at it as "my" project, but rather "our" project. This is the sign of a a great partner to work with on a major project. Following the completion of the work, Jon left the building immaculately clean. While the scope of the work was initially limited to the interior, Jon noticed some serious issues on the exterior of the building and recommended cost-effective changes to repair and eliminate the possibility of future damage. As talented as Jon is, he is even a nicer person and a pleasure to deal with on every level. Jon was the perfect partner on this very important project for our institution. Without any reservation or hesitation, I would give Jon five stars and my highest recommendation! Rick Hyne

We have used Day & Age on multiple occasions. They do the best work -always professional and the job is well done. I have owned two older homes--one from 1835 and my current home built in 1900. Jon and his company have done restoration with historical accuracy and care. On our master bedroom closet renovation, Jon designed the project with us and managed the build start to finish. Historic homes routinely present unique challenges in restoration. Jon and Noah are skilled and always do excellent work. We are repeat customers of Day & Age and have been working with them for years past and will continue to do so. I trust them to always do a great job.

Last year we undertook a gut renovation of the main bathroom in our 1838 house in the Mystic historic district. The room was carved out of some space at the top of the stairway on the second floor. It wasn’t large and there was no way to expand it, so we were forced to glean every particle of space possible through design and engineering to make a comfortable and beautiful room. I know for sure that no other contractor we interviewed for this project could have, or more importantly WOULD have been able to achieve what Day & Age did. This project required a creative approach to relocating and replacing some ancient cast iron plumbing, which was the first amazing solution Jon came up with. And he worked tirelessly to engineer the floor layers so that there would be no step up into the bathroom, even though we specified a linear drain and large, thick natural tumbled slate tiles. He suggested solutions for wall and ceiling surfaces which went beyond our imagination and we ended up with tinted plaster and some tadelakt (shower ceiling) which are natural, durable, anti-microbial and much more beautiful than painted drywall. (Who knew? We will be using these materials on every future bathroom.) He introduced us to an elegant edging technique that solved the plaster cracking along joins which we are now applying to all the plaster edges in the house. He listened to us, never told us “no” and not only made our vision a reality, but materially improved and enhanced it. He kept us apprised of the budget weekly and made suggestions for sticking to it. We felt incredibly lucky to have someone to work with who understood what we cared about and was able to share our standards. We are designers and so is Jon, so we spoke the same language. Now we can’t wait to see what he does with our kitchen! There’s nobody—and certainly no contractor—like Jon Day.

Historic Homes require a great deal of care and understanding whenever there is any kind of construction work being performed. Whether it is general maintenance, or complete restoration, Day and Age has proven to be a quality, informed, and reliable contracting company. Throughout our window restoration project, Day and Age provided exemplary service. Their quote, budget and timeline were spot on in every instance. Each stage of the project was fully outlined prior to the start, and as the work progressed the lines of communication remained open and direct. The project required exacting work, and it was carried with tremendous care and professionalism. The final result was magnificent. No additional work was ever performed without our expressed knowledge and consent. While replacing the windows, a dry rot problem was discovered which had caused significant damage to a basement window. I was notified and the issue was described and a remedy suggested. After inspecting the problem, we agreed to the additional work. Once again the renovation was done with great care. Upon completion the window restoration we could not have been happier. The Shaw Mansion Window Restoration Project is superior example of craftsmanship at its best. The job was an award winning performance. I can without reservation recommend Day and Age for any type of construction, or renovation project.

Our family hired DAY & AGE for a massive remodeling project - A nine bedroom Victorian in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Jon and his team leapt into action and helped us move mountains within our time frame and budget. Very few contractors have such a broad knowledge of historical restoration and quite importantly, how to marry the craft with modern amenities and building materials seamlessly. Highly recommended for historical restoration and high end remodeling projects.
