Outback was a cool place with humorous and friendly staff. The scenery was beautiful and the hikes really helped me find peace with myself and feel a sense of accomplishment. Just wait till they send you after, I was in outback for 2 months and then was at another less intensive program for nearly 10, most kids do not go straight home after this program

Outback itself is actually a kinda fun experience all things considered. I was there in 2011. The reason I’m giving them a one star is to warn parents what the purpose of this company is. This company exists to manipulate parents into allowing Outback to eventually sell your child to a “treatment facility”. It is effectively a human trafficking operation. If you’re considering this place, you’re probably working with an “education consultant”, correct? These people are the recruiters. They prey on behaviorally challenged teenagers and get large kickbacks from companies like Outback, who charge you thousands of dollars a week, who in turn will get kickbacks from the next “treatment” option down the line. For the love of your children, do not send your kid to any business in this industry and instead call the FBI.

Like every mom, I was hard-wired to protect my child from infancy through her initiation into adulthood. Our journey to health was blind, as mental health was/is still heavily stigmatized. By chance, I heard the words “wilderness therapy,” which I’d never heard before. I knew immediately it would be the right thing for her and give her the safe space to navigate toward her wholeness. I little expected that our family would shift into health, too. When I attended the parent seminar, read the books, and visited my daughter, it felt like big boulders fell into different spots under the rapids. Something was entirely new. We finally exited that terrifying stage and started a new show together. It’s been nearly five years since she went to Outback. She continues to amaze me with her sensibility and the way she walks this world, and I continue to be grateful for the tools I picked up from her. Again, there aren’t words to express the gratitude I feel for the people and work of Outback, and the unexpected ripple effects of one girl’s journey on the world around her. The learning, love, and initiation she experienced here is something I want for all kids to experience.

Great decision. From the initial contact to the in-field therapist and parent training sessions it was all a first rate experience for our son and for us. Outback is is a class organization with great people. Highly recommend.

I attended Outback in 2018, and spent 70 days in the West Desert of Utah. Wilderness was the first step, and the most crucial one, on my journey of self-improvement and becoming a man. While wilderness may not be for everyone, it changed my life in an inexpressibly profound way. I had struggled with irresolvable and seemingly unsurmountable depression and anxiety for years, and was getting to the point of no return. Through the help of my parents and my education consultant, I found Outback. With the help of my therapist, and many of the staff, I learned how to be strong when everything inside of my head was telling me to give up. While Outback was not a permanent solution to any of my issues, it gave me some tools to forge the path I'm currently on. Forever grateful.

I went through this program in 2011. (I was 17) I was a drug addict and was getting into a lot of trouble in high school. My parents sent me away in hopes to save my life before I turned 18 and there was nothing they could do. These poor staff members had to deal with me stealing coals, yelling at the top of my lungs when I didn’t get my way, stealing other people’s food late at night. Needless to say I was coming off of drugs and was a handful and staff did a really good job keeping their patience with me. I felt challenged a lot, especially during the hikes, but staff were great with talking me through everything that I still hold close to me and reflect on when I go through struggles. They also helped me start to overcome a lot of things that were driving me to drugs and alcohol. Overall I had a good growing experience. It was the first place I went to after being sent away for almost 2 years.

Best Decision that we ever made to send our almost 16 year old son there! It changed not only his life but our life too. Thank you Outback for all that you did for our family! Leesa S

I spent in total 5 months at Outback. While wilderness may not be a place for everyone, it helped me infinitely. Outback's primitive motto was able to help me recover from my daily life at home. It was certainly hard and very difficult, and the staff were able to be there for us in our journey. The most helpful thing had to be my therapist, Jessica Jo. She was unlike any therapist I had ever met and she challenged me to succeed. In my 5 months I did not see one girl leave Outback without being grateful for their experience. I would advise to send your kid here.
