FEAT Trading Community Interest Company T/A Silverburn Park is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fife Employment Access Trust, a mental health charity. The company is responsible for managing and regenerating Silverburn Park, a much loved but neglected 27 acre public park on the outskirts of Leven in Fife, Scotland. Silverburn Park was gifted to Leven Town Council in 1973 by the Russell family, founders of Tullis Russell paper makers in Markinch. The gift is governed by a Conservation Agreement with the National Trust for Scotland, which states that the park “should remain forever as a quiet area used for the benefit of the public in general, and the people of Leven in particular, for nature trails, quiet parkland, and organised camping” The intention is to develop a social enterprise which will generate income through a range of activities to support the future development and maintenance of the park. At the centre of this sits the redevelopment of the Flax Mill. The B listed 19th century Flax Mill will be sensitively restored as a Visitor Centre and Community Hub, providing a backpackers’ hostel, café and restaurant, meeting and event space, artists’ studios, office space and interactive heritage displays that tell the story of the Flax Mill, flax processing, and how the mill fitted into the wider flax industry across Fife. The project is part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and is scheduled to open at Easter 2025. We already operate a cafe and tearoom, and will be opening a campsite in 2020. This will provide 12 camping pitches, 3 eco-pods and 4 camper van pitches with electric hook-ups. When finished Silverburn will once again be a park that belongs to the community, a park that works for the community, and a park that we can all be proud of.
