What an experience! The air was crisp. The lake was peaceful, and the steps were worth it. I the Life of a Drop of Water! A drop enters the Alum Creek in Kilbourne and takes 220 days to flow over the dam. Then it takes 3 days to arrive at the Ohio River in Portsmouth. Alum Creek Lake Beach is 3,000 feet long making it the LONGEST inland beach in Ohio! The dam was built in 1974 & has prevented 176 million in flood damages. During the 1860's the Alum Creek was the main artery in Central Ohio's underground railroad. I took a peek into Africa, Ohio.

Absolutely beautiful park. A huge dam that is fun to play on the side of, especially in the snow. The lake is beautiful frozen and looks like it would be a great time in the summer. There is a decent length, paved, walking path at the peak of the damn. We visited to see some beautiful birds, one of which was a Bald Eagle. We were not disappointed. There's walking paths, flowing water, lake, waterpark(saw a sign, not the actual waterpark), walking trails, hill for sledding, mountain bike trail and play ground for kids. Not much shade on the playground / rec area of the dam though so be aware for hotter months. Right now the restrooms are not open, they have 3 portalets and they are absolutely FOUL. Make sure you don't need to potty when you get there, no facilities and no where nearby to go
