The network of protected areas in Central Africa-RAPAC is an international organization based –through Accord de Siege-in Gabon/LIBREVILLE that deals with protected areas in Central Africa, a region that is geographically referred to as the CONGO BASSIN. RAPAC as a network extends its membership to Republic of Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Republic of Chad São Tomé, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and the Gabon. Its leadership emanates from Leaders of protected areas of the Eight Countries. The current President of RAPAC, elected from the council of representatives of 8 member countries, is His Excellency Ambassador Anatolio Ndong MBA, who is serving also as the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to UN. The routine executive activities are entrusted to Mr. Omer Ntougou NDOUTOUME as the RAPAC Executive Secretary. The Network of Protected Areas of Central Africa (RAPAC) aims at improving the state of management of protected areas as well as their valuation in the sub Region of Central Africa. RAPAC collaborates on daily basis with regional integration bodies namely the Central Africa Forests Commission (COMIFAC) and the Central African Economic Community –CEEAC. RAPAC received a mandate from COMIFAC and CEEAC to implement and follow up biodiversity and protected areas related activities in the Central Africa region. The strategy adopted by RAPAC to achieve its objectives is to select and work with few pilot demonstration sites, biosphere reserves, Climate Change laboratories and Planning instruments in each of the eight member countries. The Network counts currently 82 protected areas, including 33 pilot sites, among them 6 biosphere reserves recognized under UNESCO'S Man and Biosphere Programme and 8 classified on the UNESCO World Heritage List. RAPAC has got key partners on the top of the list the European Union and the African Development Bank .
