Lijiang, China
Gucheng District

Old town of Lijiang is like an open-air museum. Beautiful historical buildings are lavishly restored. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops. Local beauties feature fanciful fairy-tale costumes. Most of the town probably was built anew. But it is beautiful anyway.

Beautiful old town, you can walk for hours. It gets pretty crowdy at night. A lot of little shop here & there
A beautiful place to walk through during the day. We heard the night life is even better. Tons of bars and restaurants to choose from. Streams of water run along side the buildings.
Lijiang Old Town is one of Yunnan Province’s top tourist magnets, drawing visitors who want to sample life in a minority area. Kublai Khan was the first emperor to live in this 800-year-old town that is affiliated with the Naxi minority culture. Almost 350 bridges cross canals that meander through the city, which is a good place to see colorful Naxi architecture and residents wearing native costumes.
I stayed in the old town of Lijiang for a few days and well worth the visit (2012). Plenty of interesting local cultural places and shops to visit. Very toursity so you will not be lonely. In fact it gets a bit crowded but there is a very friendly atmosphere. You need at least 3 days here to experience everything. Great bars and restaurants with a variety of beverages and cuisines.
It's the most beautiful old town I have ever been to. It's an amazing experience immersing myself in hundreds of years of history. The place is clean and well kept. Strolling down the streets you can find good street food, nice souvenir shops. At night, you must not miss the bars along the main street. Also, don't forget to enjoy the great view of the whole town from up the hill.
A beautiful but very touristic area. Lots of souvenir shops and everywhere the same. Visit during calm hours during the day but make pictures at night.
One of the few memorable places in China where history is well preserved as in the layout, structures of buildings and houses. Traditional houses stand and local customs very much preserved to a large extent. The cobblestone street adds to the ambience of ancient town of Lijiang and best of all, the very old Water Windmill is a major attraction. Stayed in ancient town, 2 times for a couple of days. Worth the money!!!
