I have used U Haul over the years with very satisfying experiences, but this weekend totally deserved a five star review. I needed packing blankets to safeguard and transport some large painted barn quilts. U Haul came through with a loan for the weekend. This truly saved my art and made my delivery perfection. This March we rented a 20-foot truck from the Stony Brook U-Haul location for a non-profit donation event. The employee did the once-over with us in the morning to write down any damages if any that were already there, told us we were good to go and sent us on our way. Apparently on the top side of the truck that you could not see unless you had a ladder, there was damage that had been previously done . The employee did not see it and did not notate it. When we returned the truck later that day to the Lincoln location, they took notice of it and reported it and are now attempting to bill me 700 . The truck was simply used for loading donation items and furniture and then driven to Lincoln. There was nowhere that this damage could have been done during the time that we had it. When we explained this to multiple people at their headquarters, they said it was no problem and the insurance we had purchased would cover it even though I said we did not cause the damage. They also said they would speak with the other location to take care of it for us. They have done no such thing. I heard nothing from anybody for a month and then suddenly received an email today for a bill. they have video surveillance on the lot like they said they do, they should easily be able to pull cameras to see that particular truck and the damage that had already occurred prior to the day we rented it. This is appalling customer service especially considering this was a non-profit donation event.

Great customer service, the people in the office are helpful and friendly. Wish the storage units could be accessed 24hrs, seems kinda stupid to restrict customer access to a self serve area and 8pm is tough sometimes. Also it's a little high, price wise, but not excessively higher than others in town. All in all, pretty good experience.

They don’t honor posted closing time. Completely ignored me and they’d closed early.

They charged me 20 extra dollars and didn't tell me what for even though I returned the truck cleaner than when I rented it and with gas.
