Extensive area of dockland dating back to the early Victorian period. Some of the docks are still in commercial use, and can be quite busy loading and unloading coastal vessels. The larger container vessels are loaded and unloaded at the Queen Elizabeth dock in Waterloo. Passenger vessels normally berth at the Pier Head to embark and disembark passengers.
