Acacia House, Lordship Terrace

Famed for hosting London's first Come Bake With Me competition, Acacia House really puts Stoke Newington on the food map. Large pots of delicious stews can be found alongside an array of tasty beetroot-based dishes (the sous chef has a bit of an obsession with said vegetable I think). It's also CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. Aside from the excellent food coming out of the kitchen, Acacia House does really well to blend a vibrant venue with a classic London council flat vibe. Actors hang around the immediate vicinity dressed as gang members and sound effects of arguing families are piped through the walls and ceiling of the restaurant, helping to create a sense of a 'bubble' of civilisation amongst the dysfunctional masses. The bathroom is also decorated with fake dry rot to really hammer home the 'given up/not caring' brand that the owners have worked so hard to achieve. I'd recommend a visit for the food alone, but the novelty of the decor really adds to the experince.
