Though its origins date back to the 14th century, it wasn’t until 1737 that Greenwich Market officially opened its doors. The market moved to its current location, next to the Old Royal Naval College, in the 1800s. Back then traders gathered under the market’s distinctive glass roof to sell meat, fruit and vegetables while pedlars offered pottery and other wares outside on the street. These days Greenwich Market, which now finds itself in the middle of a World Heritage Site, still boasts much of its historic charm. Inspired by the success of Camden Market, the market’s turned much of its attention to crafts and collectables while still maintaining a wonderful assortment of street food vendors with international flavours. Cute, colorful and artsy, buzzing Greenwich Market offers a small-town feel you don’t get from other markets in London. Slip through the entrance and you’ll be greeted with closely packed stalls selling handmade jewelry, vintage clothes, artwork and collectables. Vinyl records and books are piled high for you to peruse, and there’s also a tempting assortment of foods to sample. Feast on everything from freshly steamed dim sum to South African biltong, and don’t forget to save room for dessert! At Greenwich Market you’ll have your pick of specialty baked goods, Brazilian churros and sweet crepes. For a proper sit down meal, step outside the market for some traditional East End fare at Goddards, a family restaurant serving pie and mash since 1890. Antiques and Collectables are sold at the market Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Craft and design stalls sell on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and weekends. Things get going around 10.00am (closer to noon on Sundays) and finish at 5.30pm. The market is also open on Bank Holiday Mondays.

We visit this market often. Just because we love stroll up and down the hill in Greenwich park. It is prefect walk for a day and you can include Maritime museum and Catty Sark which is all just nearby. We always end up in the market at the middle of our walk. It is a small market. As we visited on different days, weekends tend to be not a good experience especially going there with two little kids. You can hardly walk, there are long ques for food and it is quite tight itself with not too many seats for eating sitting down. I wouldn't say that the food choice is big. There are many original and stylish stalls for gifts etc. It is always nice to go down there but I won't go there again on weekend. Overall a nice small place to stop by for a snack.

I love it. Is every time open when I go there. I don't live locally, but, this market fills my heart with joy and my bag with groceries. The entrance is free and there is a sign on top of entrance describing the market. In this way, it makes it easy to identify. There is a small business running around which makes the market even more interesting to explore. You can find groceries, art & craft, antiquities, paintings & frames, candles, puzzles with London (hand paint), casters, coaster, books, ready to eat food, artisan coffee, coffee to go, and many more. The sellers are quite friendly and they know the area well in case you need a piece of advice.
