Booked and rescheduled bulky waste pickup for through the council's services - staff on the phone were friendly, accommodating, and helpful. They made sure things were communicated clearly.

They're happy if you overpay your tax, without telling a word or issuing a refund. But when you late a bit with paying tax (because the overpaid amount) they're happy to tell this in a letter and give you a notice with a short deadline or go to court. When you want to talk to someone there, they don't answer the phone all day ("...please accept our apologise" everyone is busy there) and send automatic reply for all your emails with a message "We will do our very best to respond to your email within 20 days." when you don't have 20 days, and not even 7 as well. - update: phone is still busy for 2 days, no answer for emails.

In a rush? Use dash parking! And get fined if there system is down. Appealed and told my case was 'fully investigated' and advised me that I could have Dash parking. Hmm.

(There's only one star because you can't post with none, the true score!) I have yet to encounter anyone of the many employees I've had dealings with who have a sense of providing a service. The council is red hot on its entitlements and officious and bullying in imposing them, but disregard any responsibility to tax payers and residents. This isn't the odd lazy and complacent member of staff, but standard. Emails ignored or answered carelessly, shoddy admin and practical work (eg ground maintenance being infrequent slashing of weeds and hedges). I had to pay a 200 plumbers' bill because a badly maintained sewer was overflowing and it took months of mostly ignored effort and the involvement of a councillor to get it back, 10 months to get a broken external drain saturating my wall mended and innumerable stories from neighbours are evidence of widespread incompetence and indifference.
