I have been using The Saleroom for some weeks boss, and have found the website a great place to buy and research various items on. I really like the way that everything is set out and the filters allow you to hone in on your choices. Having successfully bid on several lots, I can see those and the lots that I stopped bidding on and this is very helpful. Good website, much better than others!

There are various problems with the service provided. (1) Many of the auction house engage in sharp practice from not noting obvious faults, skirting around age and if its original or repro etc (2) Many of the photo have filters which makes it much harder to judge the true condition of an item. Esp a problem with silver (3) Many auction houses don't upload condition reports to all sales platforms so some bidders have better information than others (4) Delivery fees can be very high - don't expect to pay less than 45 when using an external shipper and most auction houses don't provide in-house shipping (5) The auto-bid function is explored by auction houses who open high to see if anyone has left an auto-bid before dropping down much lower (6) Still very much 'buyer-beware' and the lack of rules and eBay-style guarantees, or ability to leave feedback about auction houses etc, mean that buying solely online and without physically viewing the goods is a real risk (7) The charges levied by the salesroom are some of the highest of all auction platforms - and you don't get anything extra for it Overall it needs to become much more buyer firendly - otherwise it will never reach its full potential.

When this site started it was perfect for all UK auction houses. The fees 4 years ago were acceptable. Since joining the fees have more than doubled out of nothing more than greed. I am currently in search of a better auction platform because 4.9% on hammer price? it should be a set fee like they used to be. Avoid unless you have deep pockets and like to overpay.
