The LASPD was established in 1948, and, over the last 60 years, has steadily grown and expanded the services provided to the LAUSD, which is the second largest school district in the United States. The LASPD is the second largest school police department in the United States and the fourth largest police department in Los Angeles County. The LASPD is committed to providing highly specialized police services that focus on creating a safe and tranquil environment for students and staff on school campuses, which enhance and facilitate the learning process. In addition, the LASPD fosters partnerships and working relationships with parents, local businesses, community leaders, and the 15 outside law enforcement agencies to create safe passages for students to go to and from school.
