MISSION STATEMENT To provide a safe environment, in partnership with our community, that furthers the mission of the university. VISION STATEMENT We aspire to provide exceptional public safety, create an excellent work environment, and develop an outstanding team. The UCLA Police Department leads in providing progressive law enforcement services to a culturally diverse urban campus and its surrounding community. We are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for teaching, research, and public service. We do this through our patrol, rapid response to calls, investigations, and implementation of preventative strategies. Our work, grounded in a community policing philosophy, utilizes campus partnerships as the most effective approach for ensuring a safe campus. UCLA police officers are duly sworn peace officers under section 830.2(b) of the California Penal Code and section 92600 of the California Education Code. The officers are armed and possess the same authorities under the law as municipal police officers. UCLA police officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They enforce the law, arrest violators, suppress crime, investigate traffic, and provide a full range of services to the community. UCLA PD works closely with local law enforcement in a collaborative effort to prevent crime and apprehend criminal suspects. The Department is linked to city, state and federal criminal justice agencies databases, which provide access to criminal records, wanted persons, stolen property and vehicle information. All crimes reported to the Department are thoroughly investigated and referred for prosecution through the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office or Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. Criminal and non-criminal matters involving university students may also be referred to the Dean of Students for disciplinary action. They arrested me for smoking a blunt in their \parking garage\. Later the two officers involved in the case asked for a restraining order on me even though they pulled a gun on me for just smoking a blunt on their property. When I got out of jail and went to their police station to file a complaint they told me the officers involved who got a restraining order on me, no longer worked for UCLA police department. I asked for the officers name and all I got was Officer Silvero. These police are basically glorified security guards and that's it. They are worthless for anything but telling you that you can't smoke on their property and they will pull a gun on a former police cadet/current security guard for just smoking

Hard thing give high rating for. But I need to be fair. I am disabled and have PTSD from past negative contact w law enforcement. These people approached me and treated me in a manner that allowed me to feel safe firstly. This allows me in my condition to communicate and not exasperated my personal issues. I'm greatful. I had a warrent and rightly I was detained, I was aware I had it but was scared because I don't know what would happen because I had missed a hearing. It resulted in both sides of the law having concerns safely and constructively addressed. I could not ask for more from an interaction it is thier job to uphold the law, and I was in the wrong, being given an opportunity to appear again in court on a date and time I can manage greatly helps both my anxiety and helps me continue to get past trauma. Knowing people have to do thier job, but it dose not mean it has to harm you physically, let alone put you in a further compramized position as you are trying to work to better yourself proactively and try and become less of a burden on others. They have my reapect for no other reason than I'd be criminal to not return the respect and consideration I recived as an individual. Thank you
