This is a very calm, serene park. Well maintained and very good trail around the lake.

I left home a few minutes before I needed to for an appointment. (My friends are already saying this is not the same Bernette Hilliard I know...she is never early for anything. But surprise...it is me.). As I was approaching the entrance to the lake, it hit me that it had been quite a while since I had been to the lake without a reason. I pulled on the hill overlooking the lake and rolled my windows down and turned the ignition off and just sat there. It was beautiful. Water, trees, blue sky. Then I looked closer...a mom with a toddler running in the sand, a man jogging, a couple walking their dog carrying on a conversation that appeared trivial, other families eating, kids actually playing outdoors, a man throwing a ball into the lake so his dog would retrieve it, families walking together and talking, birds, rabbits. Who knows what I missed? It was amazing. So many people enjoying this beautiful day at the lake. And I was so thankful that I did have those few minutes to stop, watch and take in everyone’s happiness and the beauty of it all. What a blessing those few minutes were!!!!

Took a nice walk around the lake when we were in town for the weekend.

We purposely visited in Winter, so to see more of the landforms around the lake. The lake's water level was very low, which made picture-taking a bit of a challenge at times, but the park itself is flawless. It's nicely laid out, includes all manner of picnic areas, including a small area on top of a knoll overlooking the lake. It's quite scenic. The Shenandoah range in the background makes this park all the more attractive. There were very few folks here on the day we visited, but the ones we encountered were very friendly. We found the park to be pet-friendly too. It was a beautiful Winter setting, and I imagine in the warmer months when the lake is full, it's simply par excellence.

Very low key and beautiful hidden spot amongst the trees. Stopped here with the family to eat and fish. There is a convenient parking lot as well as a small beach although we did not swim. The lake was beautiful and the sunset was phenomenal. Highly recommend!
