Visited Karnataka One at Kadri, Mangalore yesterday to deposit the house tax for the current year. The paperwork for the submission is ginormous and one has to go round to the back of the building to find writers who know which figures to fill in and which boxes to tick at a nominal fee of Rs 25 per set of paperwork. A very antiquated system which still requires manual insertion of carbon paper between sheets, so that everything is in duplicate. Once done we walked into the Karnataka One office to pay the tax. The paperwork/ cash was accepted and receipts issued along with our copies of the paperwork torn out of the sets filled in initially by us. All this was thrust at us along with a stapler securely tied to the table with a nylon string. Apparently it was our job to sort out the mess of papers and staple them to our satisfaction. One wonders when the Mangalore City Corporation would be able to automate the house tax payments and make it an online affair. This has been in the pipeline for many years now and still seems to be stuck somewhere. There might be a stink, but it has yet to reach the nostrils of the thick skinned individuals who are happy to warm the seats in the corporation offices.

Though the service is good, environment is not well maintained. Proper guidance and display of designated work desks can be implemented and is very much required to avoid running from desk to desk, one queue to another.

It is excellent one stop center for all our bill payments. Be it electric bill, water bill, property tax we can pay here. It is very spacious hall wherein many ladies are seated to help us in our bill payment. It is open on Sunday and mostly on other government holidays also.
