The Luapula Mental Health Consortium (LUMEHC) is a board-based group comprised of mental health professionals, clinical staff, district and provincial officers, as well as interested community stakeholders who share the common goal of promoting mental health in Zambia. Though the group originates from the psychiatric facility at Mansa General Hospital in Luapula, Zambia its core motivation is to include interested parties from all districts within Luapula to join as equal members toward this shared goal. The overarching vision of the group bases its concentration on the two main issues of: 1) addressing the high incidence rates of mental illness within Zambia, and 2) improving the availability of mental health services, mental health education, and outreach within hospitals, rural health centres, and community-based health groups.
