Sadly, it was closed during December but we used a boat to island Frioul and we could see If from the boat. It looked really nice tho. Hopefully next time I will be able to visit.

A must to visit landmark in Marseille. You will have to pay a ticket for the entrance. Small brochures with some information about the Chateau d'If are available in many languages. There is a small souvenir shop inside the castle. The highest tower is a nice place to reach. Firstly, for the pictures you can take from there. Secondly, you may discover an interesting acoustic system: if you stay exactly in the center of the tower, you will hear almost only your voice; it was really funny.

Reading allows you to travel within the story your reading. I read about this many years ago. I was in the neighbourhood. Someone does not manage resources well at all. FERRIES picks you up & drops you off. You pay the ferry for the ferry ride. Then you arrive at Château d'If and stand in line and buy an entrance ticket for 6.00 euro. It appeared to have about 5 employees but only one sold the tickets. I would have the ferry company sell tickets, fire 4 people and put a person with a counter clicker at the dock and thus verify the tickets sold per day. You could pay them 0.20 to 0.30 euro per ticket sold. Big savings on personnel. The Château d'If was worth every penny to me. From the first time I read the book I wanted to see it, visit it. The movie sealed the deal.

Met my best friend while I was staying here. Nice old man with a treasure map! But watch out for the guy that runs the place, he's a jerk. Must try the rats, they're delicious! Also trying to leave can be difficult.

It is the famous prison of the novel written by Alexandre Dumas about the \Count of Monte Christo\ dealing with desire, revange and betrayal. You go there by ship from Marseille, old harbor. It costs 11 Euro for an adult. Absolutely recommendable.

Amazingly picturesque and legendary fortress sitting on the white rock in the middle of the Marseilles' bay. Beautiful construction, visit at your own pace, stroll in the small park, rest with a coffee. Only accessible when weather allows.

Cool for the first 30-45 min. But don't think it was worth the ferry ride and having to wait for the ferry to pick us up (comes roughly every hour and half). Not everything is translated to English. A lot of the rooms/cells look the same and while the view is nice, there's limited seating to enjoy it without standing on or sitting on bird poop. The bathrooms are modern and clean on the island.

Small, but interesting historical site. If you’ve seen “The Count of Monte Cristo,” this is not the same prison as it is depicted in the Hollywood movie, but it is what Andre Dumas based the book after. Don’t expect a grand castle, but you can expect a unique fortress/prison with a well-done display inside highlighting the myths versus the reality. Great view of Marseille from the tower. Worth the trip for sure.
