It's definitely worth the drive out during the roosting season. There were thousands of crane as well as ducks and other wildlife to enjoy. We took sandwiches and ate at a picnic table.

Even if you're not a birdwatcher, this is a great place to go. The cranes are so much fun to watch. Whitewater is easy to get to and it's easy to park. There is a nice covered area where can stop to get a snack or picnic lunch. The raised walkways get you closer to all the birds so that you don't have to use binoculars or a telephoto lense to see well. However, there are a couple of public binocular devices available.

Cool 'stop in' place. We got it right when the storks we in... kind of neat to see a large migration.... kind of like Africa. Some facilities closed, unused, under utilized. Strange to see so many teaching facilities looking abandoned.

Have port-o-potties and path around water for viewing cranes and other birds. A walkout landing is a nice added attraction. It was cold when we visited so the birds were not as active. Would imagine best time to visit would be mid-November to mid-December. We stopped in Tombstone for lunch after or visit here. It was a great day.

Love to visit Whitewater Draw area while the Sandhill Cranes are present. Interesting to see the behaviors of those that migrate here for the winter. Also interesting to see the other birds, raptors and mammals that call this area home. The AZGFD does an excellent job of managing the area. The Cranes keep coming back.
