Absolute worst experiences in a California Small Claims court is in poor rural Sanctuary city Merced, CA. I win all my rental cases but boy do I have to prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that the tenant damaged my house. The bailiff is rude and the judge acts like a defense attorney for the tenant even when tenant is a no show at the trial. The judge disrespected my lease terms and allowed tenant to break lease without paying the remaining months owed in 12 month lease. Going forward I don't bother suing anymore and just take my demand for payment to a collection agency in Fresno, CA who will report tenant's unpaid landlord lien to all 3 credit bureaus. I’m happy to pay the hefty collection fee at recovery because most likely the dead beat tenant will never pay.
