Michael John Trotta is truly remarkable. Not only is his music breathtakingly beautiful, but he is an incredibly kind individual. His compositions are accessible, transporting, luscious, and so much more.

Michael John Trotta has written a beautiful piece of music in "Break Of Day." My high school choir loved performing it 5 years ago, and I am excited that my student music team voted to bring it back around this year, especially now that the choir has nearly doubled in size. I have no doubt it will be even more stunning with the additional voices! This is a decently challenging piece of music, but is glorious when it all comes together.
My choir and I are so blessed by Trotta's work. In my opinion, his work pays homage to traditional choral music while incorporating contemporary harmonies and a fresh approach to an old text or tune. His usage of dissonance is mesmerizing. His musical attention to the text is so full of care. His voice leading makes his music accessible to singers of all levels. Each year we program 2-3 of his pieces and my students continue to beg for more.
His setting of the Seven Last Words was a great experience at the church where I serve. The choir very much enjoyed learning it and the congregation was very moved. Mr. Trotta was very generous with his answering of my many questions.
Even though I have taught high school choral music for 28 years, I hadn't heard of Michael John Trotta and stumbled upon his music while searching for music for my holiday concert. What a delight! I immediately went to his webpage and spent a good deal of time exploring and I excited to begin working on his music. I have programmed his arrangement of "Silent Night" which I plan to perform in a candlelight processional with over 240 singers surrounding the audience! What a talent!
My choir and I performed the Seven Last Words last year on Good Friday. The music was hauntingly beautiful, and lingered with me for days following each rehearsal and the performance.
I love performing and teaching Trotta's music. His pieces really allow advanced high school ensembles to be challenged while also allowing them to create beautiful and rich harmonies.
Lovely music that is at once fresh and engaging to audience and satisfying to the performers. We will be performing “Into your hands” at our Good Friday Choral tenebrae and are preparing “Totus Tuus” for Easter 5, when we expect a pastoral visit from our new Cardinal.
