I had a fantastic stay here. I was traveling alone and Glenn and Laura put me in one of their favorite camp sites next to a little waterfall on very short notice, well within view of Laura’s trailer so she could make sure I stayed safe. I had originally planned to stay for only one night since the entire campground was booked but after a cancellation they even let me stay in the same site for a second night. It’s a lovely little campground and they put great care into making sure the bath house is clean and that every guest is happy. Thank you guys :)

I stayed here with a group of climbers in early March, and I will be surprised if I’m not back again before the year is out. I have found my home base for any time I come climb at Rumbling Bald, or generally recreate in the greater area. Being so early in the season, the bathhouse wasn’t yet open (frozen pipes!), but the alternative accommodations were stocked and well-kept. Visitors have access to potable water, power, and shared shelter from the rain. Sites have fire rings and picnic tables. The location is great - Ingles is right down the road, and a nice babbling creek runs through the campground, providing some nice white noise to fall asleep to. Check-in/out was smooth as well. The Popsicle Lady (AKA Laura, the site hostess) was the true gem of my experience, though. She got to work learning all of our names on the first day, and returned each evening bearing stories, firewood, laughs and POPSICLES! Her eagerness to help us enjoy our stay, coupled with her bright personality, made her arrival each night something to look forward to - the perfect way to cap off each day of activity. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re trying to find a campsite in the Lake Lure area, you can stop looking, because this is the place for you. Peace, love, and happy trails!

This is normally our go to spot as it’s close to our climbing spot and decently affordable. This will be our last time as long as the current hostess remains employed. During this last visit we informed the hostess that we would like to be away from other people as we have two protective dogs and told that wouldn’t be an issue. After a day of climbing we returned to our campsite to see that next to us was a family with no exaggeration five dogs. That is totally their right, but why were they put right next to us after we were told we would be slightly removed from other people. When I asked the hostess this she said “that’s just how it plays out.” No ma’am you are the one who set reservations and hold all the information about your guest. Why would you put a family of five dogs RIGHT NEXT to a family of two dogs. On top of all that at this time there was only one other person in the back. She could have easily moved us to a spot that would work and move the next guest to our old spot; provided they didn’t also have dogs and want some privacy. We addressed the issue and she told us we couldn’t get a refund, we hadn’t asked for one. Then she told us there were no other available site besides one (which we were willing to stay in until the hostess was constantly deflecting all of her mistakes into us), they had other “open” spots (people who had not arrived) as in they could have relocated other guest to fit their current guest as normally we would camp here about once a month during the winter. She also informed me that if I posted a bad review she would have it deleted. Really makes you question that 4 star rating.... All in all she is a horrible manager and lacks any customer service abilities except to sweetly ask you to leave them a five start review after EVER visit (it’s like she never remember us either).

We recently stayed for a week in a tent site. Overall great experience. Bath house is a really nice feature. Double sink vanity and private stalls for shower. It’s older but well-kept. Washer/dryer for laundry. The staff is incredible! It’s Close to a big grocery store but still feels like you are far from the city, which was nice. We will definitely be back.

We have had an annual site for 3 years and we love our time here. The owner could not be more friendly and accommodating. Our kids always have a great time, it is safe and very conveniently located to Lake Lure.

We had a great weekend at the Hitching Post Campground. This quaint and peaceful campground was just what we were looking for. From the moment we checked in with Glen at the front desk we received nothing but friendly service. Laura was quick to deliver our firewood as well as a sweet treat the kids loved! The kids enjoyed playing on the playground and riding bikes around the campground. Even made some new friends on the playground! The bathhouse was always clean and well stocked. The showers had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. We were camping in our travel trailer but overall the campground had a mix of both tent campers and rv campers. Everyone camping was very respectful of quiet time. Our site was right next to the playground, which the kids loved, and our site was quite level. The location of this campground is fabulous! Ingle’s supermarket and gas station just up the road and the campground is minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. So glad we found this campground and we look forward to planning another trip there!

This is an great place to stay for a climbing visit to Rumbling Bald. 20 minutes from the crag, grocery store down the street, and a nice bathroom/showerhouse. Laura is an absolute gem of a camp host and made our group feel so welcome and looked after. Treat her right when you stay here, she deserves it!
