We live in Moab, but usually take our kids to a pediatrician in Grand Junction. When my daughter ended up with a case of nursemaid's elbow, we decided to try and get her in locally. I contacted Moab Family Medicine and told them exactly what was wrong with her. They scheduled us for an appointment with one of their PA's that evening. When we arrived, we were told by the PA that it was probably nursemaid's elbow, but she wasn't comfortable reducing it. All the other providers had gone home, so she sent us to x-ray (which is not usually indicated for nursemaid's elbow) then made an appointment for us to come see one of the other doctors the next day. I asked if it would be okay to leave the elbow out of place overnight and was told that aside from discomfort it would be fine. The next morning, as I was driving to our appointment, Dr. Priest's office called to inform me that she wasn't comfortable reducing the elbow either. They suggested that we wait another 24 hours to see the orthopedic specialist the next day. My daughter is 2. There was no way I was going to make her wait another 24 hours with a partially dislocated elbow. She was in constant pain. So we ended up going to Grand Junction. It should have been a simple procedure to get the elbow reduced, however, because it was left out of place for so long, it was swollen, and we ended up having to go to a pediatric ortho to have it fixed. What should have cost 200 ended up costing almost 1000 not including the gas and time to drive two hours each way to the other doctor. When I wrote a letter addressing my complaints, I received no contact from the office. They apparently don't feel the need to try and make peace.
