With my stop here I realized how quiet the surrounding area is, that is when no vehicle is going through the hole. After a while of quietness you will here the wind rustle and the sounds emitting from the veld. Still visible is the old fort on top of the ridge which protected the entrance and exist to Montagu, as a support there was and old black powder canon on the mountain in Montagu which apparently was able to shoot the distance to the fort.
