It is now open again to the public except for the gift shop. Worth a quick stop for Spanish, Mexican and US transitions through history.

Oldest governmental building in California! Super cool artifacts inside the museum. And a very detailed model of a tall ship! Very interesting history on display at this museum! Staff/docents are friendly and knowledgeable. Gift shop has some really cool items for purchasing too!

Highly recommend paying (10) for the curated tour (10am & 2pm daily) by one of the knowledgeable State Parks & Rec staff. It's a 45-60 min fascinating short walk of: * Custom House Museum * First Brick House * Old Whaling Station * California's First Theater * Joseph Boston Store * Memory Garden * Pacific House Museum

Small center/museum for old Monterey history; short tours begin here.

A great place to visit while in Monterey. There is a second floor to see. Staff very friendly and helpful.

California Perspective

It's an interesting historic spot with it's own charm. Located immediately adjacent to the Wharf this could be turned into an amazing museum although at the moment it seems like there's always someone sitting inside who's simply doing their time. I tried asking a few questions about California and history of Monterey although the people who work here seem to know very little... I guess I'll just research this on google.
