Beautiful stay from start to finish! Seems silly to remark on the decor, but the ambiance it creates is incredible. The lobby is stunning, and truly one of a kind. We entered at night, and inside there are trees lining the sides of an indoor plaza all hung with lantern-like lights. I can imagine the restaurant being quite popular under those trees when it’s open. The staff were attentive, and quick! Parking was also a breeze, hotel has a parking garage right across the plaza. Price was reasonable too, only 25 for the night! The hotel room is beautiful and peaceful. The decor is modern with inspiration from mid-century modern pieces. Though we didn’t get to enjoy the spa, there’s something about those terry cloth robes that just feels relaxing and luxurious.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Portola Hotel & Spa. The room was very clean and very cozy for us all. The common areas of the hotel were also up to expectation. I would bring them back another time to this lovely hotel.

Very elegantly designed. Located close to wharf, food, and shops. Rooms are spacious with nice balcony for relaxing. No amenities available but thru have tour rentals, gallery and free parking. Room needed to be cleaned better because bathrooms were dirty. Floor was covered with hair.

I must add the high tech in this hotel is super awe inspiring. The shower was an absolute luxury and overall the area was quiet. Nothing says get away like quiet! There were pups down the hall but once you closed the door you didn't even notice them. Talk about sound proof. I was a happy camper!

Great hotel, very clean and extremely pet friendly. Great value, very reasonable pet charge, recent remodel is nice. Noticed our bathroom was poorly remodeled. They didn’t remove the hinges and doorknobs when painting and looks sloppy & noticed a lot of flaws in the tile. There are a lot of great restaurants and a great cafe/bakery. The pier is right next to the hotel and lots of great outdoor space. Lots of great places to walk your dog, due to covid we didn’t receive the complimentary dog cookie and their restaurant was closed so getting glasses and silverware for food ordered in was not an option. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall a great place to stay, would stay again when visiting Monterey.

My husband and I took a stay-cation at the Portola for our 20th anniversary. The rooms have all been remodeled during the Covid pandemic. Our room on the 6th floor offered a beautiful vista of the Monterey Bay and the Custom House plaza. It was a little strange because so few guests were in the hotel, and there were no amenities such as room service or dining inside the hotel. Of course, there were plenty of dining options within walking distance, such as Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. We were even able to use flashlights to send signals at night from our balcony to our teens at home!

Pretty sad the way they treat the locals. We live here and have suggested as well as had friends stay at this hotel. Then to be be treated the way we did when we went there to eat was pretty reassuring that they don’t value the locals and the value we bring by recommending as well as frequenting the restaurant. We’ll know how to decide when the community voting comes along when it regards the “tourist” locations unless these places learn how to treat their own neighbors.
