This place makes me happy. Some folks report the food wasn't great but we have a fantastic meal here. Inventive, delicious, comforting, thoughtful. Please do yourself a favor and order the whole omakase spread. Do not expect traditional Japanese food, but do expect interesting variations with Japanese dishes or Japanese ingredients, executed with attention to detail. And the price! A great value in an expensive city.

Different set menu each night about 60 at this tipless restaurant. You could order ala carte. Service is fine, food is interesting fusion, unique flavor combo. Overall there needs some fine tuning on the dishes.

After reading about this place in the Chronicle, we were excited to give it a shot. But what a disappointment it was... The food was borderline inedible. Course after course, we hoped for it to improve but it did not. Bland flavors and microscopic portions, and combinations that didn't make any sense to any of our palates. For example, we were served an anemic sliver of raw trout eaten with hot miso soup thickened with squash, or the chicken rice porridge which was served communally and had us dishing the slop into small bowls like pigs from a troth. The meal was capped with the "dessert" which was a trio of unsweetened sesame pastes and fruit leathers. The service was inconsistent. I had rice porridge smeared all over the table by an inattentive server who was wiping down the table before dessert. Overall, It shows that the concept of this place is near and dear to someone's heart. However, at the end of the meal, I felt as though I hadn't eaten at all and felt very cheated by the anemic portions of unappetizing food. I would recommend readers to avoid this place and for the owners of the establishment to maybe try a new strategy when it comes to planning the menu.

Amazing array of Japanese/Korean style dishes. It's pretty pricey, but the food is delicious.

Delicious Omakase and wine pairing, though oddly spaced

The place is nice but the food is hit and miss. I'd give it a try if I were you and make your own decision on whether you like it or not.

Like the concept, but expected much more from these tenured chefs. Food was so experimental that most of the meal wasn't enjoyable. Aside from the pork belly dish and chicken gizzard croquettes which had good flavor, dishes ranged from bland and mediocre to outright bad.
