Tragically beautiful. Most of the graves have been reclaimed/restored. about 20% are still overgrown with trees and underbrush. so much history, Philadelphia and american. Stunning monuments and headstones. I saw two beautiful red foxes running about. The old, main building is just stunning but in severe decay. Photographically, very worthwhile.

It's a total catch 22 in that it is absolutely stunning to go through and explore, but a shame at the same time that it has been so forgotten about and that entire sections of the cemetery are \lost\ under heavy brush and wooded areas. It makes for great photography and is just filled with fascinating history, architecture, and diversity. It is absolutely stunning and gorgeous, but again... Sad. There is a volunteer effort trying to clean it up and maintain it, but it is a huge job and will be years and years before they are caught up. Very beautiful hidden historical piece of the puzzle to the great pride of Philadelphia. Keep our enriched historical mementos in tact so future generations learn and take great sense of pride with tremendous zealousfulness. Appreciate the tranquility of the natural habitat and handle with gentile care. Keep it clean. Make it clean. Give back to the earth from wence thy came from. ()ノ

A mostly abandoned appearing cemetery, but the naval section is still well cared for. Government money pays for that, I guess. It's a cool place to walk around or bike to from West Philly. Usually there's hardly anyone there. It's overgrown and mysterious and natural, and up on a hill that you can see the skyscrapers of downtown from.
