I bought a house in Lakewood 15 years ago and had no idea it was less than a mile from one of the few karate dojos in the Western United States that were sanctioned by a governing body in Japan. When I enrolled my son 4 years ago it was a matter of convenience. Then I learned why MMAC was miles above the \strip mall\ dojos that sell black belts to the highest bidder. If you want hype, unrealistic expectations, breaking bricks, and a fast path to a black belt, go somewhere else. MMAC was built around the traditional Japanese art of karate in all of its forms. The programs here seek to find students who are willing to commit themselves to karate permanently and make it an active part of their lives. They are taught to embrace the culture and work ethic because there are no short cuts here. There is a reason why students that succeed here succeed in all aspects of life.

MMAC is an asset to the Ahwatukee community, providing traditional martial arts training where discipline is learned and advancement is earned. This is a traditional Japanese dojo, where everyone doesn't get a medal and you don't buy your child's blackbelt in 2 years; enablement, entitlement, and excuses are not tolerated. My son has been training with the Sensei's of MMAC since 2006, starting in their program held at the Ahwatukee YMCA at the age of 7. Anyone who has met my son will attest to his maturity, balance, and discipline, and I attribute much of that learned behavior to his dedicated training at MMAC.
