It is named after Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar, a Pakistan Movement activist, celebrated companion of Father of Nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah and thenGovernor of Punjab, Pakistan. The construction of the Nishtar Hospital block started in 1953. The basic idea and its plan was provided by Dr. M. J. Bhutta. It started functioning with 80 beds on October 1, 1953.[2] Hospital's total bed capacity currently stands at 1,800, which is one of the largest in the country. Hospital now has 24 departments and divisions, over 31 wards, a burn unit, an outpatient and Accident & Emergency Department, in addition to 15 operation theaters. Currently Dr. Shahid Bukhari is the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

It is one of the oldest medical institutions established 29 April 1951 after the creation of Pakistan. It offers degree program in medicine, dentistry, and nursing. It is named after Sardar Abdul Ran Nishter Pakistan movement leader and then governor of Punjab Pakistan. The campus is spread over 20 acres of land .campus is beautiful. Nishiter hospital multan is the one of the largest hospital in Pakistan, is located adjacent to the college. The total area campus, hospital, hostel area is 112 acres. The land given by justice Abdul hameed Kamboh,and Alam dar gillani. Hospital is the one of the big hospital with all Facilities available there. It covers very large number of people from Pakistan.
