Butcher that duplicates into a restaurant. It is recommended to reserve at any time but especially on weekends. Nice brunch option. There is nothing sophisticated in the menu, everything is simple but from good, local ingredients.
Altwirt is a properly authentic Bavarian restaurant that has managed to bridge into the modern era without losing its charm. The interior is a successful mix of modern and bavarian, and so is their menu. None of the fusion stuff, but a few modern (and also vegetarian) dishes right next to old classics and seasonal dishes. Try the ox as their very own butcher as indeed the whole village is famous for their oxen. Also delicious locally hunted game. And the waitresses always have a twinkle in their eye!
Service: unbelievably friendly. Food: very authentic Bavarian with weekly changing menu. And tip: Try their pumpkin seed oil ice cream!
Fantastic food and atmosphere. I think translation was lost when I ordered as I had hoped for a sample of Regensburger, Weissewürste, Knoëdel, & Schweinwürste - plus a pretzel, potatoes and Weissebier. I ended up getting a full order of each - but in true Canadian way I polished it all off and rolled home. One of my best meals ever.
