Although the company representative, Monte Niver, was extremely polite and helpful, it is my opinion that Securco overcharges dramatically for their services. Perhaps their packages are suitable for businesses but, if you're a homeowner, you're better off looking elsewhere. Last year, I asked Securco for a simple house security quote (a couple of cameras, a few motion sensors, and an alarm). The first time, Monte came back with 2,752 which I thought was exceedingly expensive. We left this off for about a year and asked for another quote this year. The second time, Monte came back with 2,969. I don't mind paying good money for good services, but I was surprised by the high cost because, after I got quotes from other providers, I found out that they generally ask for something in the 1,600-1,800 range (for example, Price's Alarms quoted me 1,866 or 1,105 with a new monitoring agreement while Telus SmartHome costs something like 40/mo. for 36 months for comparable equipment). I believe it is the prerogative of any customer to find the best service at the lowest price. However, instead of making a deal with me or trying to meet me halfway, Monte wrote, \We can’t compete with Telus. They subsidize their equipment substantially. They’re a much larger company and they’re attempting to buy the market. We’ll see in the long run how that works out for them. I hope they look after you in a timely manner if you have any after sales issues. Thank you for considering our company for your security system needs.\ To me, this sounds like a somewhat bitter statement, not something I want to hear from someone whose opinion I'm seeking earnestly. Perhaps Securco would work out for you, but I'd rather spend the extra 1,000 elsewhere.
