This was my 3rd museum I visited in Japan and it's not in Tokyo! It's really nice for visiting alone, with a partner, friends or family. If you want to know more about Japan then definitely visit this museum. I stayed about 4 hours here. There's a restaurant, souvenir shop, many sitting areas and a nice park beside it you can enjoy a walk outdoors as well. Most text is in Japanese but you can get an English audio guide. Please be respectful as it is quite quiet throughout the museum. Highly recommend!

It's very informative and eye-pleasing with a lot of beautiful modeling. You can easily spend two or more hours with cheap admission.

If you are interested in Japanese history and culture, this place is totally worth visiting, despite the long distance travel from the beaten track for tourists. As shown in the photos below, the museum exhibits consist of artifacts, both real and replica, miniature dioramas, and their descriptions, thoroughly covering from the prehistory to modern. The only downside is that the descriptions are practically available only in Japanese, and that you must rent a portable audio guidance (free of charge, and comes in English, Mandarin, or Korean) to understand what the displays stand for. Make sure to reserve plenty of time for the visit, as it will take a full day to explore all the exhibitions.

Great collection of iPhone prehistoric items from all around Japan. Vast greenery adjacent to the museum. Recommended during samurai season

super detail models for old Japanese towns and Villages. not so often seem Japanese side of the WW2 stories. Great short trip (20 minutes direct train 7 minutes bus ride) for 5 hours layover in NRT Airport.
