The Macedonian Opera and Ballet building in Skopje stands out for not being a pastiche of neo-classicist architecture, a style that has come to define many public buildings in the Macedonian capital. The addition of neo-classicist structures during the execution of the Skopje 2014 project, namely a semi-circular colonnade, has significantly changed the area that surrounds it and contrasts with the stark modernism of its architecture.

The building needs renovation, in order to keep in touch with the reality. Not talking about the design, but the interior, lightning, the scene itself, modern heating/cooling system. The building should inspire the artists working in it, and now it feels like it makes their work a bit harder. It lacks cosiness.
Nice modern building, but as many buildings in Skopje, it shows maintenance is not at it's best. The layout of the seating area is interesting, though seats are very cramped. We saw the Nutcracker and the performance was mediocre both in terms of music and dancing. The highlight was the guest ballerina in the role of young Clara, who significantly outshined the rest of the cast. On the other hand, the tickets were dirt cheap in comparison to anywhere in central Europe, though I guess appropriate for the intended audience, which seemed to be comprised mainly of family members of the cast.

I was there for Vizija Fest, which was great. The facilities were ok.
