Love Calke Abbey. This was a repeat visit, in the rain, under COVID restrictions... Still didn't disappoint. The NT do a fantastic job with many properties and grounds, and their volunteers are also amazing. Some lovely chats here this time, go and see/hear for yourself ️

Large grounds and plenty of crisscrossing footpaths for walks of any desirable length, often wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side. Beautiful terrain and landscape.

In the care of the charitable National Trust since 1985, Calke Abbey is a Grade I listed country house near Ticknall, Derbyshire, England. The site was an Augustinian priory from the 12th century until its dissolution by Henry VIII. The present building, called Calke Abbey since 1808, was never actually an abbey, but is a Baroque mansion built between 1701 & 1704. The surrounding landscape park contains an attractive walled garden & the estate is also listed at Grade II* on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

A fantastic National Trust property offering something a bit different. It's interesting to see a place being repaired rather than restored, essentially keeping it from falling into further decline so you can see what happens to a stately home when they cannot be fully cared for. The grounds are immense and you can spend hours exploring or just passing the time. A truly wonderful place to spend time.

Nice place for a stroll - ample parking, good easy paths so OK for all age groups.
