The market town of Neckenmarkt is located in the Oberpullendorf district in Burgenland. Neckenmarkt is one of the municipalities of the Blaufränkischland (wine-growing area with the predominant grape variety Blaufränkisch). The sun shines in Neckenmarkt for up to 300 days a year. The community owes this climate phenomenon to its good location. Three chains of hills protect the area from bad weather. In the north the Rosalien- and Ödenburger mountains, in the west the Landseer and in the south the Günser Gebirge protect from the humid air masses. In addition, the country is flat to the west and allows warm air masses to flow in from the Pannonian lowlands. Precipitation usually falls from November to January, the water gathers in a tectonically sunk basin, so that the deep and heavy sandy and loamy soils allow the grapes for Austria's best red wines to ripen perfectly in the long, warm summers.
