I liked that this bar was relatively quiet. We made a booking for 13 people and got there a bit later than the time requested. They had given away our tables and were about to send us away until they realised they could put some other tables together, and accommodated us. What I loved about the night was that it was quiet enough to chat and they offered to give us table service but with individual bills. I wish every bar would do that, it was so much easier for people to pay and we didn't have to keep shuffling around the tables. I asked to try a natural wine, but it wasn't that impressive. A good place to come for conversations when you want a quiet night.

Located on a side street in Neutral Bay, The Local has all the makings of a great small bar-extensive wine list, variety of tapas to share, graffiti walls & cool interiors. Unfortunately on the night I was there, they were understaffed which meant service was very slow & they ran out of food on menu. However, we were offered free mineral water to apologise. I can see the great potential in this bar, and it did come recommended, so I'd happy come here again to give it a second chance.
Came here for a quick drink before dinner, and the service is quite good in this little bar. Has a. Dry cosy feel about it and the recommended craft beer was good too. Will definitely come back when I'm in the area.
The Local Bar is everything that you want/don't want in your neighbourhood. You definitely want its wine list and great atmosphere. You absolutely want its location- a laneway near several solid neutral bay restaurants. You might even just want to hang out with the incredibly attentive, yet laid back and friendly staff because they make you feel cool. (Not me... ok maybe sometimes, but don't tell them I said so). What you DON'T want, is all of these things just around the corner from your house, calling out to you every single day as you drive home from work, when there's kids sport and dinner and school pickups and music lessons and 100 other great reasons why you shouldn't stop for a glass or two. I don't want it, but it's there and I love it. So I stop. Just for a glass.
Great little bar that's tucked away! A small space, but if you head there for some after work drinks it's perfect. Good choice of wines and nibbles.
Absolutely terrible service. The bartender could not have been more aggressive and patronising when asked a relatively simply question.
