Nice facility! Nice old architecture!
The Salvation Army Buchanan Lodge is a beautiful faith-based, resident-centered home that offers vital programs and services to the elderly in our community who need it most. It is committed to delivering excellent care to all its residents by providing top-quality services and a happy home-like environment. I commend The Salvation Army Buchanan Lodge and its staff for the great work they do and support them completely as they make a difference in the lives of so many in our community.
My mom just recently moved here from the hospital after living at another facility that we were not very happy with. The building itself and location is wonderful. Its very spacious and people are not crammed in together. They have 4 wings that the beds are distributed through. There are a few cosmetic things such as the carpet needs cleaning in her wing but her room if wonderful. Large and comfortable. The nurses and care aids knock on the door before entering as respect for the resident. That is what hit me the most. The way that they treat the residents. They joke with them, and residents know staff name and staff know residents. Staff stay at this facility some over 25 years. On the first day every staff member knew her name. The intake nurse made my mom feel comfortable and safe and her first night was without event. I go almost every day and if I notice something on my mom and haven't had the time to mention it to the nurse that day the next day I've come in and it already has been addressed. I can feel good about my mom being here and that feeling is priceless. That doesn't mean you don't have to be involved but its not because you think they are not paying attention but for the comfort of your loved one and to work with the facility so that she gets the best care possible. I gave them 5 stars as there are only small things that could improve such as the activities are moderate compared to where my mom was and they could cheer up the living room area and gardens a bit more. However volunteers could also help with that.
My husband Ken, is a resident and the care he receives is over the top!
This is not a lodging for tourists. It is a nursing home.
